Martin Hamilton, 24, joined Cyberhawk as a graduate and now works as an inspection engineer.
WHAT UNIVERSITY DID YOU GO TO?
WHAT DID YOU STUDY?
Mechanical Design Engineering.
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT CYBERHAWK?
Like many graduates, I felt panic and immense pressure to secure a job after receiving my degree. I knew I wanted to work in the field in which I’d studied but many of the jobs involved moving out of Scotland, which I was reluctant to do. After researching different opportunities via Talent Scotland, I came across Cyberhawk.
This job allowed me to stay in Scotland but also offered the opportunity to travel round the world, allowing me to experience the best of both worlds. I’ve visited Oman, Saudi Arabia, Holland, Germany and Bulgaria with Cyberhawk. There are not many graduates who are given that opportunity so early in their career.
WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT YOUR TRAINEESHIP?
I think what I enjoy most is the on the job training. After working with the company for a year, I was put through a CSWIP Plant Inspection course, which enabled me to become a qualified plant inspector.
This has allowed me to take on more responsibility and put me on the right path for a management role, while giving me a broader view of the type of projects involved at all levels.
Now, two and a half years into my career, I am leading teams in the field, with my responsibility growing, a rare opportunity for many graduates at this stage of their careers.
