MY MORNING

I like to get up early, before 6am, so I can get organised and ready for a busy day ahead. Being in recruitment, each day can throw up an array of different challenges so it’s important I am prepared to deal with most things. Most mornings I will head to the gym for a class before having a healthy breakfast to make sure my brain is fuelled for the day ahead.

Although our office doesn’t open until 8.30am, I am normally in just before 8am so I can prepare a “to-do” list. It’s great to map out what I want to do that day, but given the unpredictable nature of the industry, it doesn’t always go to plan.

MY LUNCHTIME

Mornings can always be busy with various meetings so I rarely take lunch before 1pm. It’s important to have a good work-life balance so I use this time to go for a walk when weather permits, or run some errands. We like to celebrate birthdays and other events in our office, so when there is an opportunity, we will all have lunch together – the favourite is always to order in pizza.

MY AFTERNOON

Every afternoon is different and can range from mobilising someone to go offshore at short notice, to working on an assignment for a client. We rarely have a quiet afternoon, but that’s what makes it interesting. Afternoons are also normally a good time to get out to visit clients and find out what they have been up to and where their next recruit is.

MY EVENING

The office closes at 5pm, but we stay open later to see any candidates who want to meet with us after hours. There can often be some good networking events in the evening, so I can often find myself attending these. They are a great opportunity to find out what’s happening in the oil and gas industry as well as meeting with business people from across the city.

Outwith these, I like to stay active, whether it be out cycling or catching up with friends. Then it’s early to bed for the next day’s challenges.
