Job description

The Field Delivery team provide on-site support services to a wide and diverse community of UK and International businesses within the finance, manufacturing, legal, publishing and public sector, the teams cover a variety of hardware, software and network related issues.

Main Responsibilities 

The Field Engineering team complete a variety of roles within their day to day schedule, it is anticipated that the apprentices will also experience a high proportion of these tasks. Our OSS and Field Delivery Teams complete the following key roles:

  • Hardware break/fix on a PC’s, laptops, printers, tablets, mobile devices, servers and network equipment from a wide variety of manufacturers
  • Operating System and Application issue resolution on a wide range of Microsoft OS and associated desktop, server and tablet applications
  • Project work including desk moves, installation of new devices, upgrading existing devices, relocation of offices and DC’s
  • Provision of cover to On Site Services Engineering team in the event of absence or additional project work on the site
  • Data Centre support
  • Through the Apprenticeship Scheme the apprentice will become involved in the following roles:
  • Basic DC support which will include replacing tapes in a customer’s tape library
  • Building PC’s, laptops and mobile devices using the customers build images or deployment server
  • Basic hardware troubleshooting and remedial action on PC’s, laptops and printers, this will include the Installation of various software applications on local devices
  • Basic network troubleshooting and support including making new data ports live, assisting in reconfiguring and replacing devices, installation of wireless access points
  • Project support including the installation of new devices, relocation of existing devices and completing audits of equipment on customer and our own sites
  • Providing support to On Site Services Engineers during peak periods and absences. Common tasks within the OSS team includes the resolution of OS and application issues, telephone support, working on a Tech Bar, following up requests for information on ticket processes made by the user community, building and deploying new devices, providing basic user training, resolve issues on local devices through remote take over, using Active Directory to create new users, groups and printer queues
  • Utilise ITSM applications to create, update and resolve incidents, manage ticket queues and escalations

Qualities/ requirements 

This role would be ideal for someone who is looking to progress either into a Field Engineer, Project Engineer or Desk Side Support Engineer, through the experiences gained during their apprenticeship, they will be fully able to support all desk side and mobile devices and will have a good understanding and working knowledge of the common MS operating systems and applications.

  • Keen interest in IT
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A driver is required as the role is field based

Qualification requirements

Minimum of 5 National grade's including Maths and English

This role is based in Scotland, Glasgow, and will be a Field Based Role.
