AFBE-UK Scotland gala dinner

Jim McColl OBE, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Clyde Blowers Capital, was the guest speaker at AFBE-UK Scotland’s gala dinner in Aberdeen.

AFBE-UK Scotland was established in Aberdeen in November in 2011 and is the Scottish chapter of AFBE-UK. The group is run by engineering professionals who provide support and encouragement to young people of all backgrounds, looking to forge a successful career within the industry.

The group welcomed guests from across the engineering sector to the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa on Wednesday, November 9, to celebrate their work over the past year and to strengthen links between industry professionals and students and graduates.

Those in attendance included business leaders, politicians, engineering professionals, academics and students who listened to the keynote speech from Mr McColl.

Jim McColl came to the forefront of the engineering industry in Scotland in 1992 when he acquired a stake in Clyde Blowers plc before leading a management buyout to take the business private.

AFBE-UK Scotland is run by industry professionals who give up their own time and resources to support budding engineers and has helped more than 500 pupils and students across Aberdeen since its launch in 2011.
