Apprentice 100: Meet Cameron MacIntosh

Former Aboyne Academy pupil Cameron joined Johnston Carmichael’s JC Futures scheme a month ago.
WHEN YOU WERE IN SCHOOL, WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS FOR THE FUTURE?
I had initially considered university as my next step after school but despite receiving several conditional offers, I wasn’t fully convinced that it was the right decision. Whilst looking into other options, I came across the JC Futures programme which sounded fantastic and jumped at the chance to take part.
WHAT WERE THE COURSES YOU APPLIED FOR?
Maths had always been one of my strongest subjects at school, so I applied for Accountancy and Finance.
WHAT MADE YOU GO FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY THEN?
Johnston Carmichael had a great reputation and the staff that I dealt with were extremely friendly and welcoming, especially during my interview. Although I don’t have formal qualification exams in my first year, there is a lot of support available to help me with my book keeping exam and it’s great to have a full year to become accustomed to the office working environment.
WAS IT THE COMBINATION OF WORKING AND LEARNING THAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE SCHEME?
Definitely. Whilst university is a great option for some people, I’m lucky enough to be able to combine studying within a working environment which offers me a valuable skill set of knowledge and experience, in a shorter space of time.
SO HOW’S IT GOING SO FAR?
I’m thoroughly enjoying the programme. Everyone I’ve worked with so far has been approachable and helpful and happy to talk me through procedures and processes, even if it’s more than once. The whole team has made it really easy to settle in and I’m looking forward to gaining further experience and confidence.
