Where do you go when you want to get high-quality advice and help in recruitment? Jonathan Gaffey moved to Aberdeen from southern Ireland to get a job in social working and was helped by SCP Recruitment.
The 39-year-old has achieved his dream of working in care management in hospitals after doing a degree at Robert Gordon University in social care. After having done care work for more than 10 years in Ireland, the move upwards to social work felt like a natural progression for Jonathan.
“It was something I’ve always wanted to do. I was out of school at 15 and went back to education at the age of 24 as a mature student,” said Jonathan.
“I worked with teenagers in care work for five years but it was difficult. The big decisions weren’t down to me and in meetings I saw that social workers had more say.
“I find the system over here better. With children and families the child is the centre, it’s not about the parents. The Scottish system is a lot more proactive, they don’t mess around.”
Before Jonathan landed his dream job, he needed to find some relief work during his studies. For help, he turned to SCP Recruitment which helped to find him work. Four years later, he is still working with the company.
“They find as much work for you as you need. In the interview, you can specify the type of work you want,” said Jonathan.
“I chose not to work with teenagers this time around and I work the hours that I need.”
The company, which provides high-quality recruitment and care solutions for Aberdeenshire, started out in Maidstone. With offices now in Bexley and Surrey as well as Aberdeen, it helps to provide high-quality temporary and permanent staff to the NHS, local authorities and the charity sector.
SCP Recruitment permanent division provides recruitment solutions to social care, healthcare and nursing. Its permanent recruitment division supplies specialist staff across the whole of the UK. It has a successful track record in working with its clients and takes great pride in its ability to understand the clients’ requirements to source the best candidates for every vacancy. It cares about the work that it does within the company, its clients and candidates.
The team working on the permanent recruitment side has more than 30 years of combined experience of placing candidates in permanent positions. Using the best professional sources, it will place the candidates, but it doesn’t stop there – throughout the first three months its after care service will ensure the candidate and their new boss are both happy.
Aberdeen SCP operates from the city and provides social care workers and nurses for temporary placements around Scotland. If you have staff off for sickness or have realised you need an extra pair of hands, then the recruitment company can step in and help find someone like Jonathan to fill the space.
Aberdeen SCP/SCP Scotland helps Jonathan to work the right hours in the right place to suit his needs. The branch started in 2006, before being purchased in 2015 by the City and County Healthcare Group, which has more than 70 branches around the country providing domiciliary and complex care services. Thanks to this, SCP Recruitment is now opening two more offices by the end of the year to help organisations and the community deliver recruitment solutions.
It was a team of Aberdeen-based, experienced social care recruiters who set up the base in the north-east. Now they work with a large number of local and national organisations, charities, authorities and independent service providers. You have to go through a rigorous face-to-face interview and verify your work history, go through mandatory training – it’s OK, it’s free – and some specialist training, but at the end of the day you are given a professional and reliable service from a company who help you on your way to your dream job.
Jonathan said: “They are very nice and good to deal with and pretty efficient.”
