Exciting careers with chemical heavyweight
INEOS is one of the largest chemical companies in the world, with 65 manufacturing sites in 16 countries and 17,000 employees.
Our products are used in a diverse range of items including: medical applications, mobile phones, lightweight car components and in window frames and home insulation. In short, we rely on INEOS’ products to keep us healthy, in touch, mobile and housed. Last year the company’s sales reached $54bn; that’s quite an achievement for a company that has just celebrated its 15th birthday.
The Petroineos refinery (a joint venture between INEOS and Petrochina) and INEOS’ petrochemicals facility at Grangemouth make up one of INEOS’ largest production centres, directly supporting more than 1,300 highly skilled jobs. The site is strategically placed to make use of crude oil and natural gas from the North Sea and transform them into a range of refined products and petrochemicals.
With an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes, equivalent to nine million litres of fuel per day, Scotland’s only crude oil refinery produces the bulk of fuels used in northern Britain.
Our petrochemicals facility manufactures more than one million tonnes of chemical products per annum. These are used as the building blocks for a range of consumer goods that has transformed the way we live today, from solvents used in pharmaceuticals to plastics supporting green technologies and lightweight solutions, to traditional materials.
Faced with the challenge of meeting a decline in its key petrochemical feedstock from the North Sea, the Grangemouth site is set to benefit from a significant investment of £300million by the company to enable the building of a storage facility and gas terminal to bring in shale gas ethane from the USA. The shale gas will provide the petrochemical site with an advantaged feedstock and with this investment, on top of more than £1bn already invested by the shareholders since the INEOS acquisition in 2006, the business now envisages a secure, long-term and viable future.
Ian Fyfe, HR Director INEOS and Petroineos, said: “The continuing investment from the shareholders is a vote of confidence in the Grangemouth site. The investment in our petrochemicals business will enable us to implement a plan to enter into long term agreements to import US shale gas into Grangemouth that will provide the business with a great future. The Refinery business is also developing an ambitious, long-term plan that looks to the future. ”
To help deliver and share in this exciting future, INEOS and Petroineos are looking to recruit talented people to take up roles across both their refining and petrochemical assets in Grangemouth. They are currently offering unrivalled opportunities to work at Scotland’s largest manufacturing industrial complex in an innovative and entrepreneurial environment, where employees are empowered and given genuine responsibilities.
