Model of success
Richard Rennie explains why modelling is a dream job for him.
“I had just graduated from studying dance and musical theatre in London when I was scouted by a very respected modelling agency called Catwalk Model Management.
"At the time, I was attending a lot of dance and theatre auditions, but I was also excited to start working as a model. The agency quickly sent me to test shoots with top London photographers to make my book as strong as possible to attend my first few castings in the very competitive fashion industry in London.
“At each casting, I would never know if I would book the job or not, but that’s what makes the job so exciting and exhilarating.
“Eight years later and I am still working all over Europe as a model. Modelling requires a lot of hard work and dedication and you need to be very strong to succeed in the industry. After attending hundreds of castings and booking a multitude of jobs, I am now known by many casting directors and fashion houses in Paris and London.
“It is imperative that you are always looking your best and represent the brand or product with the utmost professionalism. This includes an intense diet and gym regime, knowing your best angles in front of the camera, and understanding the photographer’s direction to produce the best result for the clients who have hired you to represent their brand.
“I have been lucky enough to work in both fashion and commercial modelling and worked with brands such as Lee Cooper, Eleven Paris, Schwarzkopf, DIM underwear and I am the face of a leading teeth whitening product in France, called Style White. I was recently featured in a new campaign for La Halle, which is a leading high-street store in France. The photos were used for their website, billboards, and all their stores around France, Switzerland and Spain. I had the pleasure of working with top photographer Felix Lahrer and other nationally acclaimed models well-known in France.
“It is a great experience working with such a huge company, modelling numerous styles and then seeing your photo in the popular stores when you walk down the high street. I also featured as the main model in the Lisa Angel music video, who is a French internationally celebrated singer.
“Modelling is certainly my dream job. I have been lucky enough to travel all of Europe and meet amazing people in the industry. I would advise anyone thinking about a career in modelling to research top agencies and go to their weekly walk-in castings. Each agency should have a day and time on their website when you can meet them.
“It is a tough industry but once you succeed, you realise all the hard work was definitely worth it. I have achieved all of my dreams in Europe, and I am now looking to move to the US where I can really further my career. I am looking forward to continuing modelling there, and so excited about what the future will bring.”
