Sebastian Wilson is a 21 year old MPS helpdesk agent from Aberdeen. He works for Xeretec Scotland and graduated with a BSC in Business Information Systems.
WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE?
At Xeretec, the helpdesk team remotely manages machines from all of the Xeretec group offices across the UK, mainland Europe, Ireland, and also machines that are located on offshore installations.
It is my job to proactively manage Xerox multifunction devices, provide technical and troubleshooting support and supply of consumable parts, as well as maintaining working relationships with clients.
WHAT IS YOUR JOB'S BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
The biggest challenge for me is trying to manage all of my designated helpdesk devices whilst handling client calls, as it can be quite a juggling act.
On top of this, I also have to learn all of the processes involved in a new working environment, which can be a lot to take in.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
It has to be the experience. This is my first full-time job, working in my chosen field, and right now I am soaking up all the knowledge I can gain from my experienced colleagues.
Being exposed to this professional working environment is helping greatly with my learning and enhancing my skillset.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR BEST CAREER ADVICE?
Always have a career plan but be realistic. You will reach your personal and professional goals eventually through sheer hard work and determination but these things do take time, before the greater achievements start to pay off.
WHAT'S YOUR DREAM?
My goal is to work my way up and be in a managerial position within a few years’ time. I enjoy my job and I work in a company that encourages me to better myself, which is really important for self-confidence and progression in my career.
