Name: Ian McLellan
Job title: Director Aberdeen Hearcare/Hearing aid dispenser
Works: Specsavers Hearcare department Aberdeen
Qualification : Hearing aid dispenser – HE certificate from Queen Margaret University
WHAT DOES YOUR ROLE INVOLVE?
My role involves testing people's hearing, advising on hearing loss and hearing aids.
I also advise on health issues with ears and the correct type of hearing protection for work places. While managing the hearing hub, I also mentor and train other clinical staff within Specsavers.
As well as treating customers, I head up the Aberdeen Specsavers Hearcare while developing and growing the business.
BEST THING ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
Running my own business, being able to help people with their choice of hearing aid and seeing the difference this can make to their lives. I love the social interaction with customers – I find helping them very satisfying .
YOUR JOB’S BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
To ensure that Specsavers Hearcare Aberdeen offers the best value hearing service in the north-east of Scotland and continues to grow in size.
BEST CAREER ADVICE?
To do something you care passionately about so that you love your job and enjoy going into work every day. I am a firm believer that the only thing standing between a person and their goal in life are the reasons they keep telling themselves as to why they can't achieve it.
