Students get gold star for Silver Birches pitch

Stewart Milne Homes is helping develop the next generation of media geniuses through a partnership with North East Scotland College’s creative media department.

The Aberdeen-based home builder worked with second-year students to give them real on the job experience by creating a destination video for its Silver Birches development in Alford.

Students studying TV on the HND Creative Industries course were given the opportunity to competitively pitch for the work in October 2014.

Sarah Furze, 20, of Inverkeilor in Angus, was awarded the contract and, with a support team of seven, set about creating a short video to showcase Alford and Silver Birches at its best.

Several trips were made to the development to capture scenic footage of the area and interview members of the Silver Birches community. Sarah and her team then edited the footage to create a video showcase that Stewart Milne Homes will now use as part of its marketing collateral and on its social channels.

As a thank you to the team for all their hard work and effort on creating the video, Stewart Milne Homes awarded the students high street vouchers to contribute towards equipment that might be required for their on-going career development.

Hannah Christiansen, sales manager at Stewart Milne Homes, said: “We have been extremely impressed with the quality of the students’ work and indeed their level of commitment and professionalism. They really took ownership of the project and I am absolutely sure this will be the first of many excellent videos they produce in their career.”

Damien McLeod, lecturer at North East Scotland College added: “We always try to give our students a genuine experience of the real working world and this has been a fantastic way for them to learn how to work with a commercial organisation. It’s been a great add-on to their every-day studies and will help enormously as they embark on their future careers.”

Silver Birches is a development of family homes in Alford, just off Greystone Road. The collection of four-bedroom homes is  priced from £289,995.
