Working towards a special day
The first order of my day is to tend to my baby boy, Coby, who is now eight months. My husband, Allan, and I give him his breakfast and get him washed and dressed before getting ready to make a start on our working day.
Coby will occasionally come to the boutique with me, but if I have a busy day booked in he will spend the day with one of his grandmas. My colleague, Katrina Wyness, takes appointments at the weekend so I can have some family time.
When I arrive at Ivory Grace, I get the boutique ready for our brides, making sure the gowns are all steamed and hung nicely, arranging our accessories and setting out refreshments ready for the first appointment.
I don’t take a long lunch break as there are generally appointments running throughout the day, but when I do, my favourite place to go is the Hammerton Store which is conveniently situated a stone’s throw from our boutique on Great Western Road. They serve the most delicious pate, and chocolate brownies.
If Katrina and I are in the boutique together, we often go for lunch to some of the local cafes and plan for upcoming photoshoots, events and exhibitions.
Afternoons are spent meeting more brides, their bridesmaids, and families. Appointments usually last around an hour but can vary from bride to bride. Some girls have tried on umpteen gowns before visiting Ivory Grace and know exactly what they are looking for, while others are trying on a bridal gown for the very first time and are seeking our expertise to help find their perfect dress.
One of the best parts of the job is undoubtedly meeting the lovely brides-to-be and their families, hearing all about their wedding plans. It’s so nice to be a part of their special journey and helping them to find the dress that they will wear on their big day.
Once the day’s appointments are complete, I spend some time on the phone and sending e-mails, contacting our brides, responding to enquiries and liaising with our designers which include Augusta Jones, Charlotte Balbier, Sassi Holford, Stephanie Allin and Ghost London.
Most evenings are spent at home now there is a baby in the house. Allan usually makes dinner while I play with Coby and do some chores. We try to all sit together to eat and have a chat about our day. After dinner, one of us will take our dog, Callie, for a walk while the other baths Coby ready for bed. Once he is down, we then have some time to ourselves to relax, often with a glass of wine and whatever box set we are currently in to.
My favourite things about my job....
I get to meet so many lovely brides and their families and be a part of their special journey.
Choosing our new collection gowns every year, and of course trying them on when they arrive in the boutique.
Our appointment system at Ivory Grace allows me to be flexible and spend time with my gorgeous baby boy.
My job allows me to work closely with some of the best British bridal designers and keep up with the latest bridal trends.
We have the opportunity to take part in various photoshoots, shows and events including Your Wedding Exhibition and Gok Wan’s Fashion Brunch Club.
