Talented young local performers are to get the chance to tread the boards at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen this Christmas alongside panto regular stars Elaine C Smith, Alan McHugh and Jordan Young.
Open auditions are being held for the roles of Michael and John Darling in this year’s spectacular swashbuckling adventure Peter Pan, which runs at the city centre theatre from November 28 to January 3.
Aberdeen Performing Arts and pantomime producers Qdos Entertainment are holding open auditions on Saturday, October 17at the Music Hall in Aberdeen for four local boys to share the two roles.
The successful applicants will get the chance to work with Aberdeen’s panto queen Elaine C Smith, who plays the Magical Mermaid, as well as the city’s favourite comedy duo Alan McHugh as Dame Maggie Celeste and Jordan Young as Smee.
Peter Pan director and choreographer Nick Winston will be among those judging the auditions and applicants will be asked to present a prepared monologue, poem or rhyme of their choice and should also be prepared to read from a short excerpt from the script.
Hopeful boys will need to meet the following criteria – be no taller than 4’6” for Michael and 4’8” for John; must be accompanied throughout the audition by a parent or guardian and be available to perform throughout the entire run, from the start of rehearsals on November 16 until January 3.
Youngsters interested in auditioning can apply by filling in a form available at pantoauditions @aberdeenperformingarts.com.
Choreographer Nick said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for a young performer, not just to take centre stage on one of the most magnificent theatres in Scotland but also to learn from such legendary pantomime performers and first-class entertainers as Elaine, Alan and Jordan.”
