Job Summary

The School has internationally recognised research pushing the boundaries of theoretical and practical knowledge in Computing Science. We have long-standing research strength in Computational Intelligence, Case-Based Reasoning and Data Mining with growing expertise in Usability and Human Factors.

The Smart Data Technologies Centre, hosted by the School, focusses on industrially - applied data science, optimisation and machine learning. Major application areas include: planning and supply chain optimisation; predictive and preventive maintenance; process control and operations management. Smart Data is a strategic priority research area for the university, and we engage in interdisciplinary research with other Schools, most notably Engineering (predictive maintenance) and Architecture (smart cities).

The Centre attracts direct funding from industry as well as public funding from RCUK, Horizon 2020, and from Scottish Innovation Centres, such as The Data Lab, OGIC and CENSIS. RGU hosts the Aberdeen hub of The Data Lab Innovation Centre, which is co-located with the School. The School is a member of the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA), which pools world-leading research in Computing Science from Scottish Universities.
