Your new firm are a long-standing Chartered Accountancy firm who are looking to add an Accounts Assistant (Bookkeeping & Management Accounts) to their team. With 8 partners and approximately 50 staff over 2 central belt offices, you will be joining an intimate and friendly yet thriving CA firm, which focuses on quality client service and staff well-being. Your new role
As an Accounts Assistant (Bookkeeping & Management Accounts), you will be the firm's main point of contact for the clients for business support services. You will be responsible for providing services such as bookkeeping, preparation of management accounts, assistance with budgets and finance administration, depending on the needs of the client. Your work will predominantly be carried out from the Edinburgh office but some time may be spent at clients' premises.

The needs of the clients in the portfolio will vary but responsibilities include:

  • Bookkeeping - using Sage Line 50, Excel, Xero etc to carry out routine record keeping and bank reconciliations, though you will implement time-saving and more efficient methods and move the focus from data-entry to finance reporting and budgeting.
  • Review and Management Accounts - you will act in a review capacity for those clients with a bookkeeper, carrying out control account reconciliations, updating relevant lead schedules, key accounts analysis, and preparing monthly/quarterly management accounts and cashflows. You will be responsible for reporting to the client and will work with the client in producing annual budgets where required.
  • Finance Administration - some clients require assistance with credit control, drafting of cheques, banking, and contacting suppliers and you will have responsibilities in this area where applicable.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you must be comfortable in a client facing role as there will be high levels of client contact. You must have experience using a variety of accounting packages including Sage, Xero etc. You may be qualified in or studying towards an AAT qualification or you may be part-ACCA qualified. Support for exams will be considered as appropriate.
