Senior Transport Planner

Location: Edinburgh

Previous experience working within a Transport Planning / Civil Engineering Consultancy environment is essential.

This business employs only the best, both technically and professionally.

This is a business growth role, due to a massive increase in workload, both within public sector and private sector development work.

The business requires a principal transport planner, someone who has gained a few years experience post qualification.


  • Working with a team of transport planners, modellers and engineers focused on a variety of scheme development and appraisal projects
  • Leading the delivery of commissions as Project Manager and building excellent working relationships with a range of clients
  • Supervising and guiding junior members of the team to ensure successful project execution and commercial performance.


The candidate should have a degree in a relevant subject, for example Geography. We will also expect:

  • Experience as a Transport Planner / Engineer for multi-modal transport and scheme development studies with the ability to contribute to the success of a range of high profile transport projects
  • Experience in the promotion of sustainable travel, and the development of active travel programmes of work.
  • Experience of handling and analysing data
  • Ability to work both as part of a sophisticated multi-disciplinary team as well as possessing the ability to work independently to solve problems.
  • Experience of project and client management, covering programme, resources, finance and quality control.
  • Track record of successfully mentoring and developing junior colleagues and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate collaborative behaviours and engaging style of delivery.
  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Wider experience of local transport planning work e.g. appraisal, public transport services, network management, Business Case development, transport modelling etc.
  • Experience in the use of strategic and micro-simulation modelling software
  • MSc in a relevant Transport discipline
  • Experience of statistical analysis / programming.
  • Have achieved, or be working towards Chartered Engineer or other relevant professional e.g. CIHT, TPP, CEng
