Our Role

We are looking to recruit a new connections designer to join our Commercial team in Scotland. This area of the business is responding to challenging changes in our licence obligations, growing levels of competition and playing a key role in progression to a low carbon future.

A Connections Designer, your role is a pivotal one, helping to ensure Guaranteed Standards are met when providing quotations for new connections for customers. By providing customer with designs and quotations for both import and export connections to our network, you ensure we are delivering the highest level of service.

Your projects will be varied, and will involve designing, costing and quoting new electrical connections for domestic, commercial and industrial developments, at voltages up to 11kV. Projects may also include the connection of distributed generation equipment, under Engineering Recommendation Document G59.

Due to the regulated nature of our business, all timescales set for our connections projects are heavily monitored, and therefore must be produced and issued to customers within the Guaranteed Standards timescales. In line with regulation, all our designs must be compliant with all appropriate rules and regulations in place, as well as meeting all engineering specifications and financial targets.

Your Skills and Experience

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have excellent working knowledge of both low and high voltage distribution and Power Systems networks, with an ability to create designs which promote safety throughout. You'll hold a minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering relevant and preferably have previous experience working in a power systems environment.

You'll be a strong communicator, with excellent organisation skills and a strength in developing and nourishing positive working relationships. You'll have the opportunity to visit your clients, therefore, a valid UK driving licence is also required. If you have experience within PROMIS, GIS and SIMS technology that's an added bonus, but if not, you should have a flair for picking up and working with new IT systems. Last but certainly not least, you'll have a special appreciation for safety, and ensuring our safety values are at the forefront of your working.

Our Company

At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.

We're here to help whether our customers are building a single home, housing development, industrial development, generation development or independent distribution network. Our responsibility is to respond to challenging changes in our licence obligations, growing levels of competition and play a key role in progression to a low carbon future.

- Generous holiday allowance (you can even buy additional holidays)
