Our Role

We are at the front line on the Electricity Network, so we are responsible for keeping the lights on. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

This role covers a wide span of projects and networks, and allows you to get involved in all aspects of work on our overhead line and underground cable network. This could be helping to fix a fault on an overhead power line, to assisting in a new connection of electricity to a customer's home or business, all whilst you liaise and work with highly skilled teams.

This is a physically demanding role, and you will be outdoors a lot of the time so you will get to enjoy the diverse Scottish weather. As part of the role, you may be asked to participate in standby duties for fault restoration work, particularly in storm conditions.

Your Skills and Experience

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have previous experience working on electricity networks, and working within this type of role. You will ideally hold SAP status, or be working towards gaining it.

You will have a high regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do. You will be required to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels therefore excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential as well as outstanding customer relationship skills and a commitment to providing a high level service at all times.

We are looking for enthusiastic and driven people with a flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt to changing business and project priorities.

A full UK Driving Licence is essential.

Our Company

At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
