Location: Perth/Glasgow

Salary: £27,113 - £35,837 Depending on skills and experience

The Role

SSE Wind Generation is responsible for operating nearly 1,000 wind turbines and over 2.1 GW of capacity across the UK and Ireland. The Operations team are responsible for day-to-day running of the fleet; maximising the availability of wind turbines; scheduling planned work around production needs; and facilitating safe system of work for all activities.

A new opportunity has arisen for a Monitoring Desk Operator to join the team in Glasgow or Perth.

You will be responsible for monitoring wind turbine alarms and initiating a response to turbine faults. You will monitor live displays to provide a fleet-wide visibility of turbine status. You will help maximise our generation by investigating turbine alarms using SCADA and Pi-data and then action an appropriate response. As an operator you will also assist with data reporting to support day-to-day wind farm operations. The role will require liaising with site supervisors, operations staff and service teams to effectively communicate alerts as well as managing a database of turbine alarms.

You will be able to follow procedures and protocols and have a consideration for safety procedures in respect of Wind Turbine Safety Rules and Safe System of Work. The role would be suited to enthusiastic and motivated individual with the capacity to learn and develop new ideas within an expanding team.

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will be qualified in an engineering, renewables or statistical subject (or have equivalent experience). Experience working within a control room environment, or experience working in a wind turbine environment with an understanding of turbine alarms would also be suitable.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to enable you to effectively relay technical data. You should have a keen eye for interrogating and analysing statistical data and have good MS Office skills, particularly with Excel. Experience using bespoke software (e.g. wind farm SCADA, Pi-data, Maximo) would be beneficial.

While primarily a Monday to Friday role, in the future, there may also be an opportunity to work at weekends or as part of a rotational 24/7 shift system.
