PE Visiting Specialist, East Calder Primary School, 30.24 hours per week, closing date 28th October 2018

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Primary PE specialist to join our dynamic, child-centred team at ECPS. The post holder will work with all classes from P1-P7 and support motor development in our youngest learners.

East Calder Primary School is a non-denominational primary school and early learning class situated centrally in the town of East Calder. The school building was originally built in 1937 as a junior secondary school and offers well-maintained and spacious accommodation for 14 primary classes. A newly built nursery building provides modern, light and well laid-out space for early learning with a separate quiet room, free-flow into our extensive outdoor area and easy access to the rest of the school.

A major review of vision and values was recently completed with the entire school community involved in the creation of our new LEARN values of Learning, Equity, Attitude, Respect and Nurture which support our vision statement of “Learn and Achieve Every Day at ECPS”.

The current acting Headteacher took up post in December 2017 and the acting Depute Headteacher in August 2018. The Senior Leadership Team also includes an acting Principal Teacher.   The school has a current roll of 318 pupils arranged in 14 classes. The Early Learning class has provision for 30 AM, 30 PM and 30 full day pupils attending on a range of different days.

The school works closely with a range of partners to support learning and achievement and a part-time support for learning teacher supports pupil and staff in making sure that pupil needs are met. The school is also well support by a very experienced team of Pupil Support Workers and office staff. We have visiting instructors for woodwind and brass and specialist teaching in PE, Drama and art/technology.

Links with home are strong and are a focus for our development. Involving parents and pupils in the development and direction of the school is central to our vision and working with all stakeholders to ensure the school is a warm, happy and safe place for families to share is important to us. A small and dedicated group of parents and staff form the Parent Staff Council (PSC) which works extremely well to support the school and provide opportunities for pupils throughout the year.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate.

The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59 or Existing Member is £18. The £59 cost (where appropriate) will be deducted from your salary over a 1 or 3 month period by repayment schedule.  If your employment concludes before the amount is re-paid in full, the outstanding balance will be deducted from your final salary.
