Location: Perth, Inveralmond House
Salary: £24,923 - £32,919 (depending on skills and experience)
Permanent | Full Time Hours | 37 hours per week
Our Distribution Control Centre (North) is responsible for the management and control of SHEPD's high voltage Distribution system. Due to our continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Support Assistant (TSA) to join our team in Perth.
As a member of our TSA team you would be responsible for a wide range of operational duties, primarily the cartographic maintenance of the Control Room network management systems and the configuration and commissioning of substation remotely controlled equipment. As a TSA you'll also support the Distribution Control Room, working closely with our team of Control Engineers and remotely with the Field Technical Teams.
Your Skills and Experience
To ensure you get the most from your role, we ask that you have a strong understanding of high voltage networks and have excellent IT skills; we work with a number of bespoke IT packages, so a flair for picking up new software is required. You should be flexible with your approach, and be adaptable to the fast paced environment we work in. In addition, you'll have a high attention to detail, with an acute sense of accuracy in everything you do. You'll work across various projects and teams, therefore strong communication skills and excellent organisation skills are a must have.
At Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), our skilled teams operate and maintain our electricity distribution and transmission networks, carrying electricity to over 3.7 million homes across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England.
Our Distribution Control Centre is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of supplies to all our customers, every hour of every day, while maintaining, upgrading and reinforcing our existing network. We are actively involved in all aspects of any work carried out on our system, from external engagement and planning prior, to the reporting afterwards.
We are currently transitioning towards operating as a Distribution System Operator as part of an industry wide change, which will present both challenges and opportunities as we begin to operate an active network and accessible market, supporting whole system optimisation.
Our priority and the priority of the wider business is safety, both for our internal staff, and for every one of our customers. We will play a major part in the business's SHE strategy to reduce our injury rate by 50% by 2020 so a passion for safety is vital to be an effective part of our team.
We have an excellent benefits package as part of our offering. Here's a few highlights;
- Generous holiday allowance (you can even buy additional holidays)
- Great share plans
- Group Pension Plan
- One day paid volunteering
- Tailored internal development opportunities
