Job Title: Unit Operator
Location: Peterhead Power Station, Aberdeen
Salary: Up to £38,916 depending on skills and experience + shift allowance, excellent benefits + annual bonus

Peterhead Power Station is a large combined cycle power plant located in the North East of Scotland. As a Unit Operator you will be part of a small team reporting to the Shift Group Leader and will be accountable for undertaking operational duties on all plant. This will include monitoring plant operation and condition to ensure it meets production requirements in accordance with all safety, environmental and associated guidelines.
Some of your main accountabilities will include;
-Local and remote control and monitoring of generation plant in all operational modes in accordance with station operational procedures and instructions.
-Ensuring plant is operated safely, within specified limits, and that thermal efficiency is optimised.
-Undertake duties on all plant configurations including plant condition monitoring, fault diagnosis and accurate defect reporting.
-Complete written and oral reports in accordance with statutory and company requirements.
-Provide comprehensive and accurate event and incident reports to enable effective analysis of plant performance.
Your Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role you will have significant operational experience in a power plant or similar environment. A related technical qualification such as an HNC/HND in an engineering discipline would be a significant advantage. Time served trades people are also encouraged to apply. Ideally we are looking for someone who has awareness of the wider power industry including electricity trading arrangements, the operation of the grid transmission system and the REMIT regulations. The ability to investigate defects, produce reports and progress work will be necessary. Experience of key software packages such as Maximo, PI, and Opralog will be an advantage.
As a person, you will be self-motivated and a strong team player, who works safely and promotes safety issues. The ability to embrace change as well as contribute and encourage continuous improvement will be a large factor to your success in this role.
Within SSE, Thermal Generation is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all SSE thermal power plants in GB and ROI including gas, oil and coal-fired generation.
