Job Description

In line with the Social Work (Scotland Act) 1968 and related legislation, as amended, ensure the
provision of appropriate professional advice in the discharge of the Council's statutory functions
undertaking the role of Chief Social Work Officer (CSWO) across the full range of the Council's social
work functions to provide a focus for professional leadership and governance in regard to these

Assist the Council and its partners in understanding the complexities and cross-cutting nature of
social work service delivery - including in relation to particular issues such as corporate parenting,
child protection, adult protection and the management of high risk offenders - and also the key
role social work plays in contributing to the achievement of a wide range of national and local

The CSWO will take forward the continued improvement journey of the service and contribute to
supporting overall performance improvement and management of corporate risk.

The CSWO is a highly influential role where you will be expected to build strong relationships both
externally and internally and work with a range of stakeholders to deliver our Council's priorities
and outcomes.

The CSWO will be responsible for maintaining Council oversight of the IJB providing monitoring
and briefing information for elected members will play an active part in the Strategic Leadership
Group as well as contributing to Clinical and Care Governance arrangements.

Driving transformational change you will be responsible for a number of functional areas delivering
these to the required standard and at an appropriate level.

This is a key role in the Council's extended Strategic Leadership Group and the post holder will
be expected to gain and maintain the credibility and trust of colleagues as well as being able to
challenge appropriately.

The CSWO is expected to be creative, inspiring and empowering.

This post is considered regulated work with children and/or protected adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
