Based within Financial Inclusion (Appeals Team), Motherwell, you will mediate and negotiate with appropriate agencies in the preparation and presentation of appeals.

You will promote the increased take-up of welfare and other benefits, provide information relevant to the need of welfare reform and provide assistance and advocacy to service users/social workers regarding welfare related strategies and services and participate in training programmes on welfare rights.

In addition you will keep Health and Social Work, Housing Services, Education and Families and Housing staff up to date on welfare rights matters, seek to maximise dissemination of information on welfare rights matters through use of the media and support existing groups and stimulate the information of new groups with an interest in welfare rights.

A HNC/SVQ Level 3, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline, combined with extended relevant work experience is essential. You must also have experience of the benefits system and previous advocacy/representation experience with the ability to assimilate and interpret complex information. A good knowledge of Social Security issues and legislation is also an essential requirement. Previous experience within a homecare operation is desirable.

You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member prior to commencing in this role.
