The Role

We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate Renewables Engineer to join our Civil delivery team; our offices are based in Perth, Glasgow & Contin. The Team is responsible for providing quality engineering, maintenance and operational support to the Renewable Operations business.

You will work with a team of engineers & technicians based throughout Scotland and assist in ensuring all Renewable Operations' assets are operated and maintained to the high standards expected within SSE. You will function in an engineer capacity under supervision from your Lead Engineer. In doing so you will contribute to the development of complex engineering projects that will range from overhaul and refurbishment on a broad range of heavy civils assets through to new build small scale hydro developments. You will quickly gain experience working within a fast-moving operational environment and develop your project management skills through taking responsibility for managing less complex projects.

You will be given the opportunity to repair, refurbish and replace large gates and valves, winches, hydraulics, tunnels, pipelines, wind towers and dams. After completion of training you will be expected to be able to project manage significant refurbishment works in addition to your core engineering responsibilities. We are looking for graduate engineers to develop within our business and ultimately play a key role in the design, supervision through construction and post works commissioning of projects. This will require someone who will thrive in a varied engineering environment and would be happy to train towards taking a significant level of responsibility to safely deliver large overhaul and refurbishment projects on time and to budget.

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role you will be a civil or mechanical engineer educated to Degree level with some relevant experience in an engineering and/or operational environment and a developing technical skill base. You will need to be a confident communicator, be flexible to work across our business unit, capable of working in a fast-moving environment on multiple projects and be happy to train towards the highest safety qualification to operate significant pieces of plant at our power stations such as hydraulic gates, valves and other mechanical items.

Due to the work involved in this role it is essential you are able to work in a variety of environments from height to confined spaces and have some experience with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

Travel to remote operational sites across the UK and Ireland will be expected as part of this role so a full driving licence is essential.
